Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, and Ultra
Galaxy S20 instead of Galaxy S11 – Samsung is changing its name for its upcoming top smartphone. What we know so far about the price, release, and specs of the Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra can be found below.
Samsung will present its new top smartphone at the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 on February 11th. According to consistent media reports, this will not be called the Galaxy S11 but will be called the Galaxy S20.
Why Samsung decided to change the name is unclear. Rumor has it that the decision was made for marketing reasons. The number 20 fits perfectly with the year so that in the following years it would be immediately apparent which Samsung phone is currently the most current.
The change of name is currently receiving conflicting feedback from fans. In a survey among our readers, which name they would prefer for the S10 successor, the name Galaxy S11 is currently just ahead.
Incidentally, it is not the first time that Samsung has made a version jump. In his Galaxy Note series, the South Korean manufacturer of his time skipped the Galaxy Note 6 and launched a Galaxy Note 7. At that time, there were also marketing reasons. The numbers of the Galaxy S and Note series should run “synchronously” in order to emphasize the equivalence of the two models in the Samsung portfolio. Reports of exploding and burning batteries made the Galaxy Note 7, regardless of the name, a marketing disaster for Samsung.
Let’s start with the question of all questions “When will the Galaxy S20 come out? The Galaxy S20 will be officially presented on February 11th at 8 pm at an unpacked event in San Francisco. Immediately after the presentation, you will be able to pre-order the new Samsung mobile phone,

Samsung Galaxy S20 in detail: the most important rumors at a glance
What will the Samsung Galaxy S20 look like? What innovations does it offer? Which processor does the South Korean manufacturer rely on? We answer these and other questions about Samsung Galaxy S20 design and specifications below.
Design and processing: This is what the Galaxy S20 looks like
The last major design of the Galaxy S series was only 12 months ago, and Samsung usually changes the appearance of its best smartphone after 24 months. Accordingly, the Galaxy S20 is similar to the Galaxy S10. But there are some minor cosmetic changes. The opening that houses the Samsung front camera extends from the right corner of the screen to the middle. We already know this from Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S10 Lite. Moreover, the aperture is smaller than the S10 aperture – at least.
The most noticeable change on the back is the camera module. Instead of a narrow strip with horizontally arranged lenses, Samsung uses a wide rectangular module that is located in the upper left corner of the cell phone. This is reminiscent of the recently introduced mid-range smartphones Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71. The front and back of the Galaxy S20 are still made of Gorilla Glass. The frame made of metal. For the Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus, Samsung is supposed to use aluminum, for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, however, stainless steel.
The Galaxy S20 will probably be available in the colors black, white, gray, sky blue and pink. This emerges from a leak of official accessories for the Samsung smartphone.
Specs: This hardware is in the Galaxy S20
Samsung is once again using a dual strategy for the Galaxy S20: In North America, Asia and other parts of the world, the Samsung mobile phone will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, in this country the mobile phone will be delivered with the Samsung Exynos 990 chip. This should have at least 12 gigabytes of RAM. We were able to put the Snapdragon 865 to the first benchmark tests, which give you a rough idea of the performance boost that the Galaxy S20 will offer compared to the previous models.
Explanation: AnTuTu and Geekbench are probably the most popular tools for measuring the performance of your own smartphone. Both apps not only check the performance of the processor (CPU) but also other components such as the graphics unit or the main memory. The higher the score, the better the result. Since the end of September 2019, we have been testing with Geekbench 5 instead of Geekbench 4.
The device memory should be expandable for all three models via a microSD card. Samsung, on the other hand, deleted the memory card slot for the base model of the Galaxy Note 10. Samsung is said to drill open the battery significantly. Depending on the S20 model, this will have capacities between 4,000 and 5,000 milliamp hours and can be charged with up to 45 watts at the socket. The low charging speed and the low battery capacity compared to the competition from China were the main criticisms of the predecessor. Of course, the three cell phones also support wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
Galaxy S20 comes with a 108-megapixel camera
The focus of the Galaxy S20 is on the camera. This is already clear from the code name of the device (Hubble). The main camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra should be as high-resolution as the space telescope. Samsung is said to be using a 108-megapixel sensor, the manufacturer could also install a 48-megapixel periscope camera for ten-fold optical zoom. However, this may also only be a five-fold optical zoom.
The Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20 Plus, on the other hand, should only have a triple optical zoom and a 64-megapixel main camera. Videos will be able to record all three devices in 8K.
Aside from these major innovations, the Galaxy S20 will also include minor improvements. We summarize these at a glance below:
- All three Galaxy S20 models appear with Android 10.
- You will be able to check the health of your battery on the Galaxy S20.
- Samsung uses dual SIM and a MicroSD slot for the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
- The Galaxy S20 models can also be operated with an eSIM.
- Samsung will give the Galaxy S20 an AirDrop-like feature to share data between Samsung devices.
The smartphone should have a 128 GB base memory size and external storage support up to 1 TB. The AMOLED type panel should be 6.2 inches WQHD + (3,200 x 1,440 pixels) with a 120Hz refresh rate and an aspect ratio of 20: 9.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G should be a hybrid between the standard and Ultra versions. most of the data sheet should be that of S20 smooth; to distinguish the Plus variant should be a larger 6.7-inch display (with the same resolution) and the photographic sector that should be able to count on the addition of a ToF sensor. Finally, the S20 Plus battery should be slightly larger (4,500 mAh).
